The UN mission in Nepal (UNMIN) has voiced concern over Maoists' plans to include members of their army in an upcoming political meet of the party, saying it would violate the country's peace accord.
It urged the unified CPN-Maoist not to include the people's liberation army (PLA) personnel in the much- publicized plenum of the party scheduled to be held in gorkha district from november 21.
UNMIN chief Karin Landgren wrote to Maoist chief Prachanda, saying the PLA's presence in the meeting is contrary to the spirit of comprehensive peace accord signed by the former rebels with the country's major political parties as well as another agreement for monitoring of the management of their arms and armies.
US ambassador to Nepal scot H DeLisi said the Maoists' continued links with their combatants would raise questions about their commitment to peace and democracy in the country.
He said the Maoists do not need a military to pursue their political agenda as it already the largest party in the constituent assembly.
Major political parties, including Nepali congress and CPN-UML, have also asked the Maoists not to let their PLA personnel attend the political meeting of the party.
