Continuing his tirade against the Oppositions, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday said that the Trinamul Congress had brought terror and anarchy in the state. “They (the Trinamul Congress) are pursuing the politics of arson and rioting. Their politics revolve around only guns and bombs and not development. Rather, the party has become an obstructionist force to any development work in the state,” the chief minister told at a rally at Langolpota near Sashan in North 24 Parganas.
“Whenever there is trouble in districts like West Midnapore, East Midnapore, Bankura, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas, I ask the district administration to convene an all-party meeting to stop it but they (Trinamul Congress) will never attend it,” Mr Bhattacharjee said. He added that he has instructed the administration to take stern action against the culprits without considering their “political colours”.
Significantly, Mr Bhattacharjee was addressing the rally at a place where few days ago, gun fires and bomb sounds were heard as the goons had fought each other, not only to gain political turf but also the cash that the bheris (fishing ponds) in the area generates on a daily basis.
Taking potshots at the Trinamul Congress, the chief minister said that it had set a dismal record of administration in the two panchayats it runs in South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts. The Centre’s own assessment is that these two are the worst-performing panchayats in the state, he claimed. “If a party cannot run a panchayat, how can it dream of running a state?” he said.
Claiming that it was only the Left Front which had worked for the development of the people of the state, Mr Bhattacharjee said, “While the state government has created job prospects for the people and has opened the maximum number of factories in the state, Railway minister Mamata Banerjee has only made false promises of jobs”.
