A 31-year-old inmate allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail.
The son of a municipal councillor, who was lodged in Tihar Jail for the past 18 months in connection with the cases of burglary and theft, allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan on Monday, with his family members alleging foulplay in the case.
The police said deceased, Nabi Hussain, was found hanging at around 3.30 pm by jail officials when the cells were being unlocked. The sources claimed he had used his clothes for hanging. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police said the incident took place in jail no. 8 of the jail.
“The cells are usually locked between 12-3 in the afternoon. When the cell was opened, a jail official found his body hanging. It is not clear what prompted the incident,” Tihar Jail PRO Sunil Gupta said.

23 hurt in fight among inmates

Nov. 23: Around 23 inmates of Tihar Jail suffered minor injuries when a fight broke out between the prisoners on Monday.
According to jail officials, the incident took place when around 50 prisoners were returning from Karkardooma court after their appearance in a court on Monday afternoon.
