Moments after two young girls from the Northeast were dropped by their office cab near Nanakpura Gurdwara, which is close to the Dhaula Kuan roundabout on the natinal capital’s Ring Road, four unidentified men in a mini-tempo abducted one of the girls and gangraped her before throwing her out of their vehicle in Mangolpuri area.
The police said the incident took place at around 1.15 am on Wednesday when two girls, believed to be in their twenties and working with a multinational BPO based in Gurgaon, were dropped on the main road by their office cab. The police had last year issued instructions to BPOs asking them to make sure that woman employees dropped after or during night shifts return to their houses safely but police officials claimed the victims were dropped at a “considerable” distance from their houses, making them vulnerable to crime.
Sources said the four accused, who were in a mini-tempo standing close to the gurdwara, spotted the girls emerging from the cab. “Finding the two girls alone, the accused youth started walking towards them. The girls started running away but the accused caught one of the girls and dragged her into their vehicle and sped off. The other girl, who managed to escape, started shouting for help and also alerted her friends. A PCR call was made and cops started hunting for the accused,” a senior police official said.
In the meantime, the accused youth raped the victim in their vehicle, one by one, till they reached the industrial area in Mangolpuri area where the victim was thrown out of the tempo at around 1.50 am. The victim then rang up her friend and got in touch with the police. A police team arrived at the spot and took her to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed rape. A case was registered at Dhaula Kuan police station. The accused are believed to be workers and menial labourers. No arrest has been made so far.
The police has ruled out robbery as the motive.
