The main Opposition BJP on Thursday attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the 2G spectrum issue. The party alleged that Dr Singh was “guilty” of not taking a firm stand on the matter and not preventing the scam from taking place.
The BJP has been demanding Prime Minister’s reply on the issue especially in the wake of former telecom minister A. Raja claiming that he had informed Prime Minister about every decision he took on the issue.
Speaking on the issue, senior BJP leader and party’s national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, “Prime Minister is guilty of culpability of not taking a stand firmly and not acting beforehand before the damage was done. He is guilty of it and we are charging that.”
Reacting to the charges levelled against his party by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, the senior BJP leader said, “I can appreciate their desperation after the Bihar verdict that shows that Congress is marginalised. If they really want to root out corruption, why are they shying away from a JPC probe in the three scams?”
Ms Gandhi had on Wednesday defended the Prime Minister against the Opposition attack and had asked the BJP to recall the consequences of its tirade against him during last year’s general election.
The BJP has been demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe into the 2G scam and had stalled Parliament on the issue.
The party has also demanded action against the former telecom minister who had to resign amidst growing pressure from the Opposition.
