The Srinagar-Leh National Highway, which was closed last week due to snowfall, was on Monday reopened to allow stranded vehicles on either side of Zojilla pass, officials said.
Divisional administration of Kashmir has sought the help of Border Roads Organisation, which maintains the only road link between the Ladakh region and rest of the state, in clearing the snow from the road, the officials said.
They said the snow clearance operation was completed on Sunday and vehicles from Kargil were allowed to pass the Zojilla pass, 107 kms from here, towards Srinagar.
The officials said the passengers and vehicles stranded at Srinagar will be allowed to return to Kargil on Tuesday if the weather permits.
No vehicles were permitted on Srinagar-Leh highway from Wednesday as the road was officially closed last week after the area witnessed heavy snowfall.
