The Delhi police commissioner B.K. Gupta on Thursday said that a duly notified order will be issued to all the BPO companies for ensuring that their staff is dropped at home and not on the main roads to prevent a repeat of incidents like the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case.
The police may also take action against the company, whose cab driver had dropped the victim on the main road on the fateful night.
While announcing the arrest of two persons in the case in a press conference, Mr Gupta said: “I will issue an order under Delhi Police Act or Section 144 of CrPC (in this regard).”
The order, which will have instructions for the BPOs, the drivers of the call-centre cabs and security guards, is likely to be made official within a day or two.
“We have to study the matter and under which rule it can be promulgated,” said Mr Gupta.
Mr Gupta said that the employees will have to be compulsorily dropped at their homes and, in case the vehicle can’t reach their homes, a security guard will accompany the employees.
The police commissioner also pointed out that the police presence was thin between 1 am and 5 am and nearly 2,000 BPO cabs operate during this time. However, he pointed out, that despite a meeting being held on November 18 in this regard, the BPO in question failed to take the necessary precaution.
Mr Gupta said that the accused had seen the cab and began trailing it. As soon as the girl was dropped on the road and the cab left, they saw an opportunity and abducted the girl.
He further added that the police control rooms vans will also trail the cabs to see where they are dropping of the employees.
Meanwhile, the police may take action against the BPO concerned and it may be booked under certain sections of the Delhi Police Act for failing to adhere to the rules, said an officer.
