Dec. 11: Chief minister M. Karunanidhi has said the ‘complete truth’ regarding the spectrum scam would come to light “only if the CBI investigates the allocations made from the BJP time (NDA)” as ordered by the Supreme Court.
In an interview to Tamil bi-weekly Nakkheeran, Mr Karunanidhi said, “Mere CBI probe does not mean that a person (Raja) is guilty.” He did not see any Congress role in the CBI raids on Raja’s premises, arguing that the investigating agency had only complied with the Supreme Court directive while carrying out the searches.
To a query about the spectrum ghost playing spoilsport for the Congress-DMK alliance, Mr Karunanidhi quoted Congress national spokesperson Manish Tiwari as saying, ‘Any party that believes in the rule of law would not oppose the CBI probe, which has not affected the alliance. Congress-DMK alliance is strong and it will win the ensuing assembly polls.’ Some parties, he added, were “ambitiously waiting to see a rift between the DMK and Congress” because of the scam.
Responding to a query about taking action on Raja, the DMK supremo reiterated that the party would not let down the former telecom minister “unless he is proved guilty”. However, there were a few who expected Raja to be sidelined in the party even before the charge against him was proved, he said.
