A decision on finalising a case in the controversial Adarsh Housing scam is expected to be taken this week with the preliminary probe of the CBI indicating some alleged bungling by a few Army officials in connivance with some in Maharashtra government.
While the CBI is officially maintaining silence over the issue, sources in the agency headquarters in New Delhi said a meeting is to be held this week to finalise the names of people who could be booked for professional misconduct and abuse of official positions under IPC including sections those dealing with forgery.
The sources said the initial FIR could include names of some bureaucrats and politicians and later on names of some army officials may also be added as accused. The CBI investigations is independent of the Army court of inquiry ordered by the Army on Saturday.

Ministers’ kin get undue benefits: Bose
Kolkata, Dec. 12: Stepping up the heat on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on the issue of corruption, Communist Party of India-Marxist on Sunday alleged that ministers’ relatives were getting undue benefits. “If you see the amount of corruption in this Central government, you will be stunned. Ministers’ relatives are getting benefits. The flats meant for family members of Kargil martyrs were usurped by influential people,” West Bengal CPI(M) secretary Biman Bose said at a rally.
The Opposition has been castigating the Congress-led UPA-2 on several alleged instances of corruption, including the Adarsh Society scam in Mumbai, the Commonwealth Games scandal and the irregularities involved in the award of 2G spectrum. —IANS

‘Development project delay due to contractors’

Dec. 12: Government data suggests that the nation has already lost a substantive amount of around `1,00,000 crones on account of delay in implementing Central sector developmental projects in various states.
Putting forward the reasons for the delay in implementing the projects, a ministry of programme implementation note blames the contractors, who are being awarded to accomplish the job. But quickly hastens to say that the contractors are not able to do complete the jobs because of “skewed labour supply”, “fund constraints”, “delay in land acquisition”, “law and order” and “inadequate infrastructure”. The projects, which are delayed by three months, are being implemented in states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The maximum delay of 225 months has occurred in multi-state projects, where the note suggests it is because of law and order hiccups.
