After seeking Supreme Court monitoring of the CBI probe into the 2G scam case and Supreme Court reserving its verdict on the issue, NGO CPIL on Tuesday moved a further PIL in the Supreme Court for cancelling all 2G licences on the ground that there was large scale corruption and irregularities, allegedly committed by former communications minister A Raja and some allotee companies.
The NGO Centre for PILs, said since the entire process of allocating 2G licences was “marred by multiple illegalities, corruption, favouritism and irregularities” as pointed out by the CAG, all 122 licences given to 85 entities required to be cancelled.
Since Telecom Regulatory Authority of India also had come to the conclusion that 69 licences needed to the cancelled and had recommended the same to DoT, following which the department has started issuing notices, why should the others be spared, said the CPIL in its petition, filed by activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan. Such a drastic step was necessary after CAG had said that the whole process of allocating 2G licences had caused a whooping loss of `1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer.
Besides, the Centre, CPIL has named Estisalt DB Telecom, Unitech, Loop Telecom, Videocon telecom, S Tel, Allianz Infrastructure, Idea Cellular, Aditya Birla Telecom, Tata Tleservbices, Sistema Shyam Tele Services, Dishnet Wireless, Vodafone Essar South, Vodafone main among the respondent companies.
