The BJP is not planning to conduct any internal probe on the allegations against chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, though it had promised to do so earlier.
This was confirmed by none other than the BJP Rajya Sabha MP, M. Rama Jois, who was to head the three-member-panel to look into the allegations.
Soon after the series of allegations on nepotism, favouritism and misuse of office was made against Mr Yeddyurappa, the party summoned him to New Delhi. While speculation was rife on the change of leadership, the party retained the chief minister but affirmed that it would institute an inquiry into the alleged scams.
Besides Mr Jois, two national leaders of the party, Mr Bal Apte and Mr Ram Lal, were to be the members of the committee probing the charges.
The committee was to go through the documents, purportedly the evidence for the scams, and give a report to the party central leadership on whether Mr Yeddyurappa really did anything wrong.
However, Mr Jois said, “After newspapers had published reports on the committee, I checked with the BJP central office. I was told that no such was move is on the anvil.”
Mr Yeddyurappa’s rival camp too acknowledged that no such proposal was pending before the high command.
“Leaders might be saying this for public consumption but nothing will happen and Mr Yeddyurappa will continue,” said a leader of the rival faction.
