The railways is keeping its fingers crossed and hoping that the Gujjar agitation that has disrupted rail traffic in the Gangapur city-Bharatpur section since Monday will end soon. After all, it has already had to cancel and divert some trains since Monday owing to the stir. A similar agitation by the Gujjars stretching over several days when they had blocked railway tracks had caused it a loss of around `40 crores.
The Gujjar agitation which entered its second day on Tuesday disrupting both road and rail traffic in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan is to press the community’s demand for five per cent reservation in government jobs. If the stir continues for long, it will undoubtedly have a debilitating effect on both train services in the region as also the railways finances.
The present Gujjar stir has affected the section between Mathura junction and Kota junction. As a result, the railways on Tuesday had to cancel the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Kota Janshatabdi Express.
It also had to divert around a dozen trains, among them Bandra Terminus-Gorakhpur Avadh Express, Bandra Terminus-Dehradun Express, Udaipur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Intercity Express, Amritsar-Mumbai Central Golden Temple, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Trivandrum Rajdhani Express and Bandra-Terminus-Muzaffarpur Awadh Express.
