The Delhi Metro has speeded up its work on Phase-III and has made amendments to the project as suggested by the Delhi government, said DMRC chief E. Sreedharan on the eighth anniversary of Metro operations in Delhi on Friday.
The ambitious Phase-III project, which envisages adding another 65 km to the Metro network, was approved in-principle by the Delhi government in October.
Mr Sreedharan said that the work on the Phase-III will begin in the next financial year. The Delhi Metro officials will meet the top brass of the Planning Commission on January 13 to review the Phase-III project after which a final decision on the funding pattern will be taken.
“We welcome the changes suggested by the Delhi government on the Phase-III project. We will be sending a detailed project report to Delhi and Central governments in the next few days,” the DMRC chief said.
On the funding pattern, which has been a bone of contention for the Phase-III, Mr Sreedharan said though no final decision has been taken it is most likely that the state and Central governments will share 40 per cent of the project cost.
Meanwhile, the Airport Express Line may start in the next 10-15 days.
Mr Sreedharan said work on the line is complete and operations can start within 24 hours after the CMRS gives the green signal.
