There was no relief for the Bar Council of India (BCI) member Rajendra Singh Rana, who was arrested by the CBI for allegedly taking bribe of `1 lakh to grant affiliation to a law college in Ghaziabad, as Justice Mukta Gupta of the Delhi high court dismissed his bail plea saying that saying it cannot be granted at this stage.
The vacation bench, however, allowed the bail plea of co-accused Manish Tyagi, one of the members of the advisory body of the law college, who had allegedly conspired with Rana in the graft case. The court had earlier sought CBI’s response by December 27 on Rana’s plea that he was entitled to bail as his custodial interrogation by the investigating agency was over and verification of the relevant documents also complete.
CBI had on December 20 arrested Rana along with Tyagi.
The agency had raided seven places in and around Delhi, including Rana’s office and the college premises.
The investigative agency had said it had been monitoring Rana’s telephone calls and had swooped on his Pitampura residence in north Delhi on December 20 evening.
