The Delhi government is planning to commission more than a dozen new hospitals in the city during next few years to deal with the ever-increasing medical needs. The plan is aimed to enhance the number of beds in the capital which seem inadequate at times. There are presently 7,510 beds in 38 city government hospitals
.
The government is hopeful that with the commissioning of new hospitals, the number of beds will go up to 10,000. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednes-day presided over a review meeting of the health department.
It was stated after the meeting that 15 planned hospitals, including two under-construction, will be able to provide around 2,500 more beds. “Kokiwala Bagh Hospital with a bed strength of 200 is under-construction. The new planned hospitals are at Burari, Hastsal, Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, Ambed-kar Nagar, Madipur, Jwalapuri and Bamnauli. These all will be 200-bedded hospitals. Siraspur, Keshavpuram and Jaunti will get 100 bedded hospitals, whereas 50-bedded hospitals are planned at Molar Bund and Baprola,” said the chief minister’s office in a statement.
Physical possession of land has been taken by the directorate of health services for 11 hospitals, while building plans are being prepared for one.
