Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to put an end to the continued attacks on state fishermen allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy.
"Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister S M Krishna should hold talks with Sri Lanka and ensure that such grievous incidents do not take place," TNCC president K V Thangkabalu said.
In telegrams sent to Singh and Krishna, he urged them to 'ensure the livelihood of Tamil Nadu fishermen and their safety'.
He welcomed the Centre's move of summoning Sri Lanka's envoy to India to lodge a protest against the killing of a Tamil Nadu fisherman on Wednesday.
He said despite assurances from Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse that such incidents would not recur, they are continuing.
A Pudukottai fisherman was killed in alleged firing by Sri Lankan navy off Jegathapattinam coast on Wednesday.
