BJP parliamentary party chairman L.K. Advani on Sunday alleged that the Manmohan Singh government is passing through the “worst crisis of its six-and-a-half year tenure”.
Writing in his latest blog posting, Mr Advani said “More worrisome is the fact that this is a crisis not only for government but also for the country. The present level of corruption and inflation undermines the nation’s collective self-confidence.”
He also pinned his hopes on the Supreme Court to bring back the black money stashed in foreign countries and said it will earn the apex court “lasting gratitude” of the people.
“The country expects the Supreme Court to pursue this matter to its logical end. $462 billion is a huge amount... which is the wealth that can bring about a miraculous metamorphosis in Indian conditions,” Mr Advani said referring to the recent admonishment of the government by the apex court for not disclosing the names of people whose money is stashed abroad.
He said by pursuing the matter, the Supreme Court will “earn the lasting gratitude of the Indian people by forcing the government to bring back all this wealth.
Mr Advani also attacked the Manmohan Singh government for the various scams including the 2G spectrum allocation.
“By all evaluations the Manmohan Singh government is passing through the worst crisis of its six-and-a-half year tenure. The spectrum scam, the Commonwealth Games scam and the defence land scam of Mumbai have come all together in a manner as to make the common man feel that many in the government today are not just making money on the sly, but they are brazenly looting the country,” he noted.
