A 17-year-old girl, a student of Class 11, was allegedly dragged into a car and taken to a desolate spot where she was gangraped by three young men on Wednesday last week. The incident was reported from neighbouring Ghaziabad and the three young men, including a classmate of the girl, have been arrested by the Ghaziabad police.
In her complaint to the police, the girl had alleged that she was going to tuition on Wednesday in Raj Nagar area of Ghaziabad when the accused pulled her inside the car and drove to a secluded spot where they took turns raping her. There were also reports that the girl initially refused to get into the car but later agreed as one of the accused was known to her. While the police claimed that the incident came to light only on Sunday following which the three accused — Nitin Dagar, Ankit and Monu — were arrested late on Sunday night, it is learnt that the victim had approached the police earlier. The police got the girl medically examined which proved the assault.
The accused have reportedly confessed to the crime. They have told the police that they were going in their car when they spotted the victim in an intimate position with a friend Rizwan at a secluded spot. The accused beat up Rizwan and let him go. They then gangraped the girl in the car, a Maruti Swift, belonging to Ankit. A senior police official, however, said that a different chain of events did not in any way reduce the gravity of the alleged offence. A case under relevant sections has been registered at Sihani Gate police station in this regard, he added.
The police said that the victim and Nitin were classmates in an inter-college at Raj Nagar. All the accused belong to families of well-off farmers and live in Sikroad area under the Sihani Gate police station. The father of the victim is an employee in a private firm in industrial area close to Sihani Gate.
The incident is reminiscent of another gangrape that had occurred in Noida in January 2009. A girl, who was returning home from Great India Place mall in Noida with her friend was kidnapped by five men in their car and taken to a desolate place where her friend was beaten up and the girl was gangraped by 10 men. The witnesses in the case have been facing threats from the accused, who are out on bail.
