Drawing the attention of Union home minister P. Chidambaram to the plight of Muslim youth wrongly detained in bomb blasts allegedly carried out by Hindu right-wing organisations, CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat has shot off a letter to the home minister demanding compensation and relief from the Central government.
Government sources said that the investigation is still going on in the various terror blast cases and appropriate steps would be taken once the investigation is complete. “Appropriate steps would be taken to provide financial, legal and other help to the Muslim youths, who were put in long detention on the suspicion of being a terrorist but later found to be innocent,” an official said adding that many such youth have already been given bail in some of the cases.
In her letter to Mr Chidambaram, Ms Karat said the confessional statement of Aseemananda has “further exposed the diabolical role” of “Hindutva” groups in planning and executing bomb blasts. Ms Karat said, “The earlier investigations, the public statements of agencies wrongly accusing the Muslim youth of the bomb blasts, their torture and incarceration have brought no credit to the investigations.”
