The hearing on the closure report filed by the CBI in the 2008 Aarushi-Hemraj murder case began as per schedule around 10.30 am. Dr Talwar filed a protest petition against CBI’s closure report in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case saying it was “erroneous” and demanded fresh investigation into it. The CBI sought two hours for responding to the petition following which the court adjourned.
One of the lawyers for Dr Talwar and his wife, Nupur, Rebecca John told mediapersons that Dr Talwar had gone downstairs, while Ms Talwar and she remained on the first floor, to get a document signed and stamped by a notary. It was around that time that the man suddenly broke through the crowd and attacked Dr Talwar with a sickle, at least thrice. Dr Talwar sustained injuries just above the right eye and also on the hand. As he collapsed on the ground, the man was caught and beaten up before being handed over to the police. He was later identified as Utsav Sharma, the same person who had attacked Rathore. Dr Talwar was rushed to Sarvodaya Hospital from where he was referred to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. The doctors were carrying out multiple tests on Dr Talwar, who has been admitted to the ICU.
Talking to the reporters after the incident, senior superintendent of police (Ghaziabad), Raghubir Lal said that the accused has been booked for attempt to murder and will be sent to jail. Mr Lal further said that though Utsav claimed to be mentally unstable, he was responding to the police questioning without any problem.
Utsav also told the police that he was upset with the extremely slow progress in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, said Mr Lal.
