Onions have got cheaper further with the Nafed on Friday having started selling the dear kitchen commodity at `25 a kg. This has been possible with the wholesale onion prices at the Azadpur Mandi dropping to the level of `10-15 a kg.
The Nafed, which has been selling onions through five of its outlets and 25 vans, lowered the price further to `25 a kg. Following the revisioning the price by Nafed, even cooperative bodies like NCCF and Mother Dairy too lowered the onion prices to `24 a kg.
Senior official said about 400 outlets of Mother Dairy and NCCF are now selling good quality of onions at `24 a kg. It could be recalled that the Central government had asked the Nafed to sell onions at `23 a kg from February 1, following arrival of fresh crops from Nashik and Gujrat along with the imports from Pakistan.
