For expeditious release of the undertrials and convicted persons who were granted bail, the Delhi high court on Wednesday directed all trial courts as well as its own Registry to e-mail the copy of bail orders to Tihar jail authorities for quick action.
A division bench of chief justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna accepted the suggestions given by the (DLSA) and said the bail orders should be sent to jail authorities through e-mail so that the undertrials should not suffer due to delay.
The bench accepted the DLSA’s suggestion that the jail authorities inform the family of the undertrials/convicts so that they would take steps to meet the bail conditions. It also accepted the proposal that the bail grant register, in which the list of bails granted by the court concerned is maintained by jail authorities, would be examined by a judge to ascertain the reasons why a convict or undertrial was not released despite bail order.
