The Ghaziabad police on Sunday arrested five men for allegedly raping a woman after thrashing her friend.
The accused have been identified as Monu, Devendra Singh, Tonu (Monu’s brother), Jai Kishore Singh, and Manoj. The police officers have also confirmed that the five men are all residents of Raheespur village in Ghaziabad.
The investigating officers also confirmed that the incident happened in late hours of Saturday when the woman was on her way to meet her friend. In his complaint, her friend said that he was on his motorcycle when he heard a woman crying for help. He slowed his bike and was overpowered by two youths, who thrashed him till he became unconscious. They also snatched his phone, laptop and money. Before losing consciousness, he saw a man sexually assaulting his girlfriend while the rest stood on guard, said the police.
“Based on his descriptions, we took a youth named Monu in custody who confessed to the rape and robbery. He also gave information about the rest of the four youths, who too were arrested,” station house officer Vijay Kumar stated.
The investigating officers further added that the accused have confessed that they have been following the victim for over a month. “The couple used to meet in isolated areas which made the accused believe that they will easily get away with the crime,” said a senior police officer.
