Former telecom minister A. Raja and Shahid Usman Balwa, managing director of DB Realty, were both remanded to four days CBI custody till February 14 by a Delhi court on Thursday to enable the probe agency to interrogate them face to face to “unearth the entire criminal conspiracy” in the 2G spectrum scam.
For the third time, Mr Raja was remanded to the Central Bureau of Investigation custody since he was produced before the court on February 2.
Allowing the application of the CBI, special CBI judge O.P. Saini said, “Considering the serious nature and facts of the case, further recovery of the documents and the need for further confrontation of the accused with each other and documents as well as their consequent interrogation, I find merit in the submission of the investigating agency seeking grant of four days police custody remand of both the accused.”
During the hearing, the CBI sought four days of custodial interrogation of Mr Raja and Mr Balwa, saying it is necessary to unravel the entire criminal conspiracy. The CBI argued that the diary register of the office of the minister of communication and IT, relevant to the facts of the case, are yet to be recovered at the instance of Mr Raja.
