Agra: class five girl, who set herself ablaze after she was raped by two students of her
school, has died after struggling for life for almost a fortnight with 70 per cent burn
injuries in a hospital in Agra.
"The girl, who was studying in a school in Firozabad, was in a terrible condition and her
health kept deteriorating despite efforts to save her. She died on Thursday," a doctor at
the S.N. Medical College said.
The girl was dragged away to a nearby field and raped by Rahul and Bablesh when she was
returning home after the Republic Day programme in the school on January 26.
After listening to her cries, farmers rushed to the site and saved her from the boys who
were handed over to the police.
But when she reached home, she poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire.
She was first admitted to a Firozabad hospital and later transferred to Agra.
Inspector General P.K. Tiwari later suspended the Station House Officer (SHO) and Circle
Officer (CO) of the police station in Firozabad, after a hue and cry by the locals.
