It’s that time of the year when you can simply say it with flowers. As winter gives way to spring, the dark and dull tone is transforming into a floral frenzy. Dolce & Gabbana’s summer collection is blooming with bluebells and roses while Emanuel Ungaro is in the mood for some garden party.
And surprise, surprise! Jean Paul Gaultier, who is never too keen to play the feminine card, has introduced an element of floral fashion in his latest collection. “Winter in the West is a seriously muted affair and spring signals a return to the brighter side of life. And what’s better than a bunch of flowers to welcome a new season. So at the moment, simply go flower happy,” suggests designer Nalandda Bhandari.
“When you are venturing out, a floral dress is the safest best under the February fashion sun. Floral leggings are hot property right now. Maxis and skirts are aptly enhanced with a spurt of nature’s wonder. If you want to skip those exotic bigger floral prints, then check out the miniature blooms. They add a sense of romanticism to your clothes. And the scene stealer comes from Carolina Herrera. The designer has used botanical plates, instead of the usual all over appearance, in her spring line. Her smart move can emerge as the most sought after floral trend this year,” says designer Ayan Sarkar.
While Kiran Uttam Ghosh shrugs away the “trend tag” from her creative cauldron, she insists, “Flower power is too strong to be passé. Turn the pages of time, and you will discover that the lilies, roses, mimosas or freesias are an almost permanent feature of spring fashion. Apart from prints in silks and linen, embroidered blooms are perennially present. This year is no different.”
Designer Rohit Bal has returned to the fashions scene with a dramatic Khakastari collection, “There is a subtle presence of floral embroidery and a Victorian touch. After all, both remain timeless fashion statements,” confirms Rohit.
