Two cases of sexual harassment of working women have been reported from the south and New Delhi districts in the city.
A manager of Royal Bank of Scotland has filed a complaint at the Barakhamba Road police station, stating that an unknown person was making threatening calls and sending lewd text messages on her phone.
The police has registered a case (FIR No. 23/2011) under Section 509 and is looking into the matter. “The matter came to light when the victim lodged a complaint at the Barakhamba police station on Friday, stating that she was working in her office on January 17 when she received the first call on her cellphone and that the caller started making immoral demands”, a senior police official said.
“The caller then made umpteen attempts to get in touch with her. He even called her on her office landline and sent her text messages which indicated that the sender was aware of her personal and professional details. One of her colleagues talked to the accused but he was threatened. On February 9, three persons allegedly assaulted her colleague, Samal, on the second floor of the office and gave him a packet of condoms to deliver to the victim. The victim then decided to approach the police,” the official said.
In another incident, a young advocate living at a private women’s hostel in south Delhi has lodged a complaint at the Sarojini Nagar police station stating that she was receiving threat calls and obscene text messages on her mobile from three different numbers. A case under Sections 506 and 509 of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons and investigations in the case are on.
