A young man committed suicide by pouring inflammable liquid on body and then setting himself on fire near the Lahori Gate police station on Saturday morning.
The deceased, whose identity has not been confirmed so far, was seen pouring some inflammable liquid over himself by a passerby on Saturday morning near a railway
godown in Lahori Gate, , the police said. The witness immediately made a call to police control room. However, the deceased set himself on fire by the time the police could arrive at the spot. He sustained critical burn injuries. No suicide note was recovered from his possession.
“He was taken to a nearby hospital in a PCR van where he succumbed during the course of treatment. He had suffered 98 per cent burn injuries. The body has been preserved for post-mortem,” a senior police official said.
Sources said there was a dispute between the railway police and the Delhi police over the jurisdiction, which allegedly led to delay in rushing the victim to the hospital. “Earlier, the railway police refused to send its men,” a source said. Senior Delhi police officials were not available for their comments despite repeated attempts. The police has issued a hue-and-cry notice in all districts and a team has been formed to identify the deceased.
