This election, college students are turning polling officers in Tamil Nadu. Thanks to Election Commission’s proactive role, many collegians in the state will become the ambassadors of Indian Constitution and democracy. All districts are roping in computer science and IT students for election duty.
The nodal officers have sent a communication to colleges, mostly men's colleges, asking authorities to pick and choose students who have no party affiliation so that they can be trained and deployed as polling officers who would monitor webcasting in booths identified as sensitive and critical.
Madurai district informatics officer A.M.Michael Raj says, “Usually there are three polling officers and a presiding officer in each booth. This time, all critical and sensitive booths will have a student doubling up as another polling officer.”
Such booths will be equipped with laptops attached with inbuilt webcameras and broadband connection to enable webcasting to all election offices.
