Minister of state Golma Devi has joined a sit-in protest led by her husband and Dausa MP Kirodi Lal Meena in Jaipur, causing embarrassment to the Congress government. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot sent his two of ministerial colleagues to mollify the couple.
Dr Meena sat on dharna in Jaipur after he was released by the police on Thursday. He was arrested on charges of disturbing public peace in Udaipur.

Maya transfers 12 senior IAS officers in UP

April 8: The Mayawati government late on Thursday night transferred 12 senior IAS officers, including principal secretaries.
Principal secretary, family welfare and medical education, Pradeep Shukla, who was removed from his post following irregularities in the department detected during CMO B.P. Singh murder case, has been posted as member (judicial) in the Revenue Board. Principal secretary, medical and health, Neeta Choudhury, has been given additional charge of the family welfare department.

Most dalit atrocities in UP: Wasnik

April 8: UP has the maximum number of registered cases related to atrocities on dalits. Union minister for social justice and empowerment Mukul Wasnik said that the state government had not identified districts that were sensitive in nature regarding dalit atrocities. He said that in 2009, nearly 7,465 cases were registered in UP under the SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act and of these, 7,461 were related to scheduled castes.
He underlined the need for a stricter implementation of existing laws to protect dalits.

Rajasthan: Gadkari stays appointments

April 8: The BJP high command had made changes in the Rajasthan party organisation, while ordering a review of the appointments recently made by state BJP chief Arun Chaturvedi. The party high command’s decision is seen as a jolt to the anti-Vasundhara Raje camp. According to sources, party president Nitin Gadkari stayed the appointments of former BJP MLA Prahlad Gunjal as vice-president and Rajendar Gehlot as general secretary.
Leader of the Opposition Raje had opposed the appointments and lodged her protest saying the appointments were made without consulting senior leaders.
