It is only half-the-battle won by the celebrated rights activist Binayak Sen, who was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Rai-pur court on December 24, 2010 on charges of sedition, when the SC granted him bail on Friday. Mr Sen is expected to move the trial court at Raipur on Monday to get the nod for the execution of the bail order by the apex court, since Saturday is a holiday for the court.
He will be released from Raipur Central jail, where he is currently lodged, after fulfilling all the conditions of the bail to the satisfaction of the trial court, Mr Sen’s counsel at Chhattisgarh high court, Mr Mahendra Dubey told this newspaper. Mr Sen, 61, after being released from jail on bail, will have to gear up himself again for a long legal battle in the high court at Bilashpur, nearly 35 km from here, against his conviction by the trial court.
Dr sen, who spent nearly three decades providing healthcare to poor miners in remote areas in Chhattisgarh, was arrested in 2007 at Bilashpur under the controversial Chhattisgarh Public Security Act, 2005.
