[1]Railway officials in Jammu and Kashmir were caught napping as a train from Qazigund in the Kashmir Valley plied for over 20 kilometres without a driver, leading to an inquiry for action against officials on duty.
The train stationed at Qazigund, 75 kms from here, started moving towards Anantnag without a driver at around 2.00 am, official sources said.
After traversing a distance of 20 kms, the train came to a halt due to a steep gradient near Anantnag station, they said.
An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain as to how the train moved for such a long distance without any of the railway staff or security personnel noticing it, the sources said.
Railway officials refused to comment on the incident.
The train service in Kashmir Valley, which was launched in October 2008 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has been a target of both stone pelters and militants.
A section of railway track was blown up by militants in last month while railway property worth crores of rupees was damaged during the last year's summer unrest.
