QWhat made you become the producer of I Am?
This is my second film with Onir (after My Brother Nikhil). He makes very different and interesting films. We keep saying that ‘I like so and so’ and ‘I love so and so’. It is my way of showing that I believe in him. When Onir approached people to finance I Am, through the social media platforms, I thought let me also contribute. In fact, Purab also contributed money for the film. So, actors are actually paying to act in the film.
QThe film has done well in the festival circuits. Do you think it will help when it releases?
People do look up to these awards. But I believe that a film must be engaging, and not necessarily be on an issue. When I sit in a cinema hall, I shouldn’t want to leave the hall. I classify movies as either interesting or not. I Am is an interesting film, and that’s why I decided to contribute to it. Media has made the film to be a heavy issue-based film, but it’s not.
QThis is for the first time you have worked with Manisha Koirala, isn't it?
Yes, actually it has been the only time we worked together. When we both were active in the industry we would hardly meet, either on a set or at a party. So, it was nice when we working together for the first time — BNS
