Kanimozhi, was included in the CBI chargesheet despite “explaining so clearly that it was a genuine transaction and the money obtained as loan was returned.”
“Some sections are targeting Kanimozhi out of jealousy,” he declared after praising her for getting jobs for thousands across the state by conducting job fairs and for promoting folk arts through her Chennai Sangamam. The resolution expressed surprise at Ms Kanimozhi’s inclusion in the chargesheet.
“Some political leaders for whom corruption is a way of life, and also a section of the media bent upon destabilising the DMK and toppling Kalaignar”, were exploiting the spectrum issue in the hope of rattling the party. “Ever since the spectrum issue started, the media has been using it as a tool for tarnishing Kalaignar and breaking the UPA alliance,” a resolution said.
Veterans Duraimurugan, M. Kannappan, Kovai Ramanathan and Nellai mayor A.L. Subramaniam spoke at the meeting and stressed the issue must be fought legally rather than by taking any political stand. “We have no option but that does not mean that we must continue in the UPA if the CBI arrests Kanimozhi,” said a party senior.
