Osama’s death to affect terrorists psychologically

Terror experts and police sources say that Osama bin Laden’s death will have an impact on the psychology of terrorists and fundamentalists operating in India.

According to them, first and foremost, the Indian Mujahideen-Lashkar-e-Tayyaba-Al Qaeda alliance will be affected due to the terror mastermind’s death.

Prime accused in the Hyderabad twin blasts and founder of the Indian Mujahideen, Amir Reza, who is currently hiding in Karachi in Pakistan, has links with Al Qaeda, said police operatives.

A counter intelligence official said, “There is no presence of Al Qaeda in Hyderabad. They have alliances with LeT, which carries out the actual terror activities in India including in Hyderabad. Indian Mujahideen is an offshoot of the LeT. Amir Reza also had links with the Harkat-ul-Jihad-Al-Islami.

The DGP, Mr K. Aravinda Rao, said, “There will definitely be an impact. Osama’s death will psychologically affect terror groups and their operatives. The terror funding may not be so important. It is the ideology that drives the terrorists.”

Nizamabad native Abdul Masood Razzak who was a chief co-ordinator of LeT in Dubai and involved in the Sai Baba Temple blast, is closely linked to Amir Reza. Razzak had been arrested by the Delhi police and was brought to Hyderabad in 2005 August. He was facing allegations of helping Reza escape to Karachi.

It was Reza and Aftab Ansari who allegedly helped 9/11 Qaeda attackers and the Kandahar hijackers. Omar Sheik, who was released as a result of the Kandahar hijack, later killed Daniel Pearl.

Reza, Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal also played roles in the Lumbini and Gokul Chat blasts.
