At least 11 security personnel were killed and more than 30 were injured in an ambush by Maoists guerrillas in Jharkhand's Lohardagga district, police said on Tuesday.
"Among the 11 security men, eight were of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and three of the state police. The guerrillas ambushed the team in Dhardhariya jungle near Senha in Lohardagga," Jharkhand police spokesperson R.K. Mallik said.
According to him, the rebels first triggered a land mine blast and later started indiscriminate firing on the security team.
Seven injured security men have been air-lifted to Ranchi and admitted at Apollo Hospital.
Jharkhand Director General of Police G.S. Rath has rushed to Lohardagga, the official said.
In another gun battle at Jhumra hill of Bokaro, one assistant commandant of the CRPF, J.P. Yadav, was injured.
In a third incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ananad Tigga was injured in gun battle with Maoists at Satki jungle on the outskirts of Ranchi early on Tuesday.
