The CBI probe into the 2G Spectrum scam has revealed that a “shares subscription” agreement worth `200 crores was allegedly executed between Cineyug Films Pvt Limited and three promoters of Kalaignar TV, including DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, on December 19, 2008. According to sources, through this agreement `200 crores was allegedly “invested” by Dynamix Realty of Shahid Balwa in Kalaignar TV through Cineyug Films. The CBI officials during probe found that Cineyug Films Ltd transferred a total sum of `200 crores in the current account no. 733560561 of Kalaignar TV. The account stands in the name of Kalaignar TV and the signatures of Ms M.K. Dayalu, Ms Kanimozhi and Mr Sharad Kumar appear on the account opening form, sources said. “The probe has revealed that `200 crores paid by Dynamix Realty to Kalaignar TV was not a ‘genuine business transaction’ but ‘it was in the nature of illegal gratification’ paid in lieu of the spectrum licences given by former telecom minister A. Raja to Shahid Balwa’s Swan Telecom,” sources said.
Sources in the agency maintained that on the basis of these findings, the CBI is all set to seek police custody of five accused.
Earlier, the TV channel had maintained that the payment of `200 crores was meant to be an investment.
The CBI, however, in its supplementary chargesheet said, “The transfer of `200 crores to Kalaignar TV allegedly by a company linked to Balwa was a ‘quid pro quo’ for Swan Telecom getting UAS licence at a nominal price”.
