Despite claims to the contrary, the feud within the DMK’s first family was brought to the limelight, once again, during the submission made by noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani while defending DMK chief Karunanidhi’s daughter Ms Kanimozhi, on Friday, in the special CBI court.
Top DMK sources questioned the line taken by the renowned lawyer in the court. Even though it is given that as a lawyer he has to defend his client alone, the line adopted by him has clearly exposed the fault lines within the DMK clan.
When Jethmalani claimed that his client was just a minor stakeholder (20 per cent stake) and was not involved in the day-to-day running of the TV Channel, it raises another question on what her role in the company has been?
Also if the point that she had only a minor share is taken into account, then a question arises as to who is holding major stakes in it. And that would inevitably draw attention to her stepmother Dayalu Ammal, who holds 60 per cent share in the channel, sources felt.
