Throwing bricks at his neighbours and hurting them during a “jagran” (night-long prayers) in a fit of rage at not being invited has landed a man in Tihar jail.
The court did not consider the plea of the accused, Dalchand, that he was 60 years old and a lenient approach should be taken by the court while sentencing him to jail.
“It stands established that accused Dalchand with full intention and knowledge caused grievous injuries to the complainant and thereby attempted to commit culpable homicide and caused simple injuries to his son,” additional sessions judge (ASJ) Anju Bajaj Chandna said. Considering the submission made by the lawyer of Dalchand that he was 60- year-old and the sole bread winner of his family consisting of his wife and four children, the court sentenced him two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of `5,000.
According to the prosecution, complainant Ramji Lal (63) and his son Rakesh, had organised a “jagran” outside their house in 2008. During the event, when the dinner was being served, an inebriated Dalchand threw bricks on the father-son duo from the rooftop of his house.
The prosecution told the court that Dalchand held a grudge against the victims as he was not invited to attend the socio-religious function. Ramji was rushed to the hospital with grave injuries on head and shoulder, while Rakesh sustained simple wounds.
