Reacting to Delhi University’s Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) announcing a 100 per cent cut-off list for non-commerce students, human resource development minister Kapil Sibal on Wednesday said it was an attempt to keep the science students away.
“This morning, I got the news that cut-off list in one college is 100 per cent, I felt sad. I am informed by the vice chancellor that only one student in this entire list has 100 per cent marks in science stream and he may never take commerce. The idea is to exclude everybody who is from science stream and not to allow them an opportunity (to study commerce),” Sibal told reporters.
“I request the vice-chancellor to take note of it, as also the college to take note of it,” Sibal said in a joint press conference with Delhi University vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh.
The vice-chancellor said: “I agree with the minister most colleges have not adopted procedures which may disqualify a deserving candidate. So I will add that four more cut-off lists will come. It’s only in one or two colleges that it has happened, and I hope the situation will be rectified,” he said.
In its first cut-off list, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) affixed the cut-off for its B.Com (honours) course at 100 per cent for non-commerce aspirants. For B.A. Economics (honours), the cut-off is 98.25 per cent.
