The cat’s out of the bag at last. It seems that the rumours about Delhi Belly being inspired by American Pie weren’t cooked up by scoop hunting scribes nor was it the handiwork of scheming PR machinery. Instead, they were spread by a couple of jilted actresses who couldn’t make it to this Aamir Khan production.
A source says, “There were some actresses who had to go through multiple auditions and still weren’t finalised. Then they went about telling the world that they opted out of the film because of its X-rated content and compared it to the American Pie franchise.” Imran, who is well aware of these rumours, says that he also knows the people behind them. “I am not going to take any names, but it suited these actresses to label the film as ‘obscene’ when they couldn’t land a part in it. However, I think with the current promos, it’s clear to the audience that the film is about three guys stuck in a bizarre situation and has got nothing to do with campus humour, which forms the core theme of American Pie,” says the actor.
