The P.C. Chacko-led JPC on the 2G spectrum issue will begin questioning witnesses, including former telecom secretaries and former TRAI
chiefs, from July 7. Sources said the panel is also likely to call the heads of the companies which have allegedly benefited from the 2G spectrum
scam. Former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, will also be produced before the panel on July 12.
A special CBI court dealing with the 2G spectrum case gave permission to him to appear before the JPC. Sources said former chief vigilance
commissioner P.J. Thomas, who was the telecom secretary during former communication minister A. Raja’s tenure, is also expected to appear before
the committee next week.
Sources said former telecom secretaries will be asked questions on policies adopted during their tenure and other details.
Meanwhile, the JPC has also decided to hold its meeting on every Tuesday and Wednesday of every month. Sources disclosed the panel is hoping to
submit its report during the monsoon session. The CAG, in a report to Parliament in 2010, had pegged presumptive loss to the exchequer on 2G
allocation at `1.76 lakh crores.
The findings triggered a political storm and subsequent events led to the resignation of then communication minister A. Raja.
