With no terror outfit claiming responsibility for the three explosions that rocked the city on Wednesday, the Mumbai police believes that the blasts were a joint action by several Islamic terror groups.
“It is too premature to name the perpetrators behind the attack, but yes it is a terror attack,” said police commissioner Arup Patanaik said, adding, “As of now, no one has claimed responsibility, we are not ruling out anything.”
However, according to senior police officers, the three blasts showed the signature style of the Indian Mujahideen. While two bombs were planted in two motorcycles at Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar, one was planted near a bus-stop in Dadar. “In the past, the IM has used stolen vehicles to plant bombs. The Ahmedabad blasts were also carried out in a similar manner. In fact, the entire module was busted by the crime branch in 2008, after the arrest of IM operative Afzal Khan, who had arranged for the cars in which the bombs were planted,” said an officer. In the Wednesday’s blasts, a bomb was planted under an umbrella, which was placed on a Hero Honda bike.
