The extended weekend is here with a bouquet full of festivity and fanfare. People in the city who were eagerly waiting for the holidays to begin are ready with their to-do-lists. While some are scooting off to nearby hill-stations, others are throwing theme-based bashes to have a fun-filled time.
An author who doesn’t want to be named is off to having a good time in the City of Joy. He has also been invited to Tagore’s birthplace. “Once there I am meeting a teacher of mine. A traveller soaks in what a traveller gets and apart from sightseeing I am going to get drowned in Kolkata’s heavy monsoon,” he chuckles.
While Raksha Bandhan will be a family affair followed by dinners for event manager Vanshika Sharma, she has chalked out her list of things to make the most of the extended weekend. “The list includes watching back-to-back films, calling friends over for party and going to their pads followed by lots of sleeping and eating, and how can I forget shopping — loads of it.”
Designer Nisha Jamwal is hosting an Egyptian-themed party today to kick in the weekend, where guests will be served Egyptian cuisine and belly dancers will entertain them. “After the party I am leaving for a three-day escape to a cottage on a hill by the lake out of Mumbai, sans any cellphones and Internet with just books for company,” she informs.
The lure of the mountains is hard to resist. And nobody will think twice before selling one’s soul to the devil in exchange of the calm and peace that the hills offer. Abhijit Gun, a business analyst, is going to Manali with a bunch of friends. He says, “The idea is to relax and capture the beauty of the mountains. We have booked a big vehicle and a quiet cottage. Since we have three full days in hand and the place is not big, we are expecting to have a light time and unadulterated fun.”
