Prateik finally steps out of his shell

He may have shared screen space with stars before, but it’s his next film My Friend Pinto that will see Prateik essay the lead for the first time. That’s the reason why the otherwise shy actor has finally chosen to come out of his shell and share his experience with the world. “In my earlier films, I have played the second lead or even smaller roles than that. So I feel privileged with this opportunity. My Friend Pinto is very different from the films I have done earlier,” says Prateik.
The actor, who plays a character from the 1980s, says, “I play a Goan named Michael Pinto who is clumsy and unaware of the world. He just loves to visit the church, relish the cakes made by his mum, read books and enjoy his small little world, until he comes to Mumbai one day. The entire film is about just one night in Mumbai. It’s a crazy film with non-stop entertainment.” In real life, Prateik says that he is as crazy as Michael, though not so clumsy. “But I can relate to the character,” he says.
The film rests on Prateik’s shoulders and he credits producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his bold advent into the throes of film promotions. “Sanjay Leela Bhansali has whipped me into shape. I am shy and boring but he has helped me a lot with his advice on how to be comfortable while promoting a film.”
Prateik also shared a great working chemistry with his co-star Kalki Koechlin. “She never let go of a chance to pull my leg and for that I am not going to forgive her,” he laughs, adding, “But yes she’s very cute, unbelievably talented and beautiful — great fun to be with.”
