Those waging the war against corruption are armed with thought-provoking banners and words that sting and spur masses. As Anna Hazare and his campaign in favour of the Jan Lokpal Bill gains momentum, protesters are coining and flaunting witty and innovative slogans at Ramlila Ground and other protest sites.
School and college students carried light-hearted placards with slogans like “Twinkle Twinkle little star, Anna is rockstar”, “Corruption virus, Anna anti-virus”, “E=MC2= ANNA”, “My Name is Anna and I’m not a terrorist”, which reflected the protestors’ mood.
Although youngsters create most of these slogans, there were corporate groups and working professionals giving creative inputs to express their support for Team Anna. Ravinder Singh from Chandigarh, who quit his job and came to Delhi to participate in the protest, says, “It’s mostly youngsters who are expressing themselves through these posters and slogans. My friends and I have also created a few slogans and distributed them among the protestors. But I feel even these placards aren’t enough to express our angst against corruption.”
At the Ramlila Ground where Anna is fasting, a sea of banners carry slogans backing the Jan Lokpal Bill that read, ‘Desh Mein Utha Hai Bhoochal, Pas Karo Jan Lokpal’, ‘If all are against corruption, Then who is doing it?’, ‘Mr PM, Act before you regret’.
“All that democracy stands for, and what the people of the nation are now demanding, can be summed up in three words — justice, freedom and loyalty. Why can’t politicians understand that?” wonders Yukti Singh, a class 12 student, who accompanied her father at the venue.
