Anna team not to hurry over Lokpal now

The Hazare team, celebrating their 'victory' over the government, is not likely to get anything in a hurry.

The government along with Parliament, which managed to break Anna Hazare’s fast, will now send his Jan Lokpal Bill to the standing committee. But along with the the Anna legislation, the other proposed Lokpal bills will also be debated and discussed.

Despite the hue and cry raised by Hazare and his team, the Parliament has not set any deadline for introduction or passage of the Bill. Sources disclosed that neither Parliament nor the government 'are in a mood to rush things'.

After much deliberations on the four Lokpal Bills, including those of the government, Anna, Aruna Roy and Dr Narayan, one of the legislations with required amendments will be sent to the cabinet and then to Parliament.

“There are technicalities and it is not certain whether it will be possible to call a special Parliame-nt session just to pass the Bill. Winter session beg-ins in November and team Anna may have to wait till then,” a senior Congress functionary said. The civil society members will also get a chance to present their views.

Sources said that the standing committee would give equal importance to the other Bills and take 'necessary steps'.

Sources disclosed that Anna and his team realised that they have not got anything substantial, but when the A-team saw the mood of the Parliament, they decided it was time for them to retreat.

“The team felt that it will not be possible to sustain this campaign for an indefinite period and the mob was rapidly getting out of control,” a civil society member close to the A-team revealed. By evening, “Hazare and te-am decided to call off the fast, but go on projecting it as a victory,” he said.
