A man has been directed by a city court to pay `1,500 as monthly maintenance to his aged mother, who alleged that he and his wife physically abused her to force her to transfer the property in their name.
“Keeping into account the fact that the petitioner is an old lady and respondent is her only son, he cannot be allowed to shy away from his liability to provide maintenance to his aged mother, especially when he has failed to show that she is having sufficient means to maintain herself,” metropolitan magistrate (Mahila Court) Sunena Sharma said.
The court gave the order on the plea by East Delhi resident Shashi Bala Jolly who said she has been staying along with her only son and his wife in a house bequeathed in her favour by her late husband and that the couple abuse her physically to force her to transfer the property in their name.
The woman said she has also lodged a complaint with the police in this regard. She claimed that her son also refuses to take care of her needs despite her having no means to support herself.
Contending that his mother is a woman has a bank deposit worth ` 10 lakh left by his father, the respondent, a TV mechanic, claimed she often humiliated him and his wife and was bent upon ousting them from the house.

Multi-storeyed community centre in w. delhi soon
New Delhi, Aug. 28: Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a multi-storeyed community centre-cum-underground parking facility in west Delhi.
The community hall-cum-multi level underground parking in an area of 8,145 sq metres, named after RSS ideologue Bhau Rao Devras, will be built in the next 18 months in Subhash Nagar at a cost of `31 crores.
The community hall will have one hall on ground floor in an area of 981 sqm, 10 rooms on first floor, five rooms and one hall each on second and third floors. The multi-level parking will have three levels in which 236 cars can be parked.
Mr Advani said that the project will be a blessing since the sites for social functions and parking are a major problem. — PTI
