After facing continuous attacks from the Opposition on power tariff hike, the Delhi government on Monday decided to grant subsidy of `1 per unit on consumption of 200 units per month. Delhi power minister Haroon Yusuf announced the restricted relief in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday. The
government was also criticised by their MLAs on the power tariff issue. Three MLAs of the Congress, Mukesh Sharma, Subhash Chopra and Neeraj Basoya opposed the decision of 21.77 per cent hike in power tariff. “The Government has no role in determination of tariff order. This was also held by the Delhi high court on May 23, 2011. The DERC has revised their power tariff after a gap of six years,” said Mr Yusuf.
