Claiming that though the “sense of the House” passed by Parliament on the three demands of Team Anna is not binding on the standing committee, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Sunday said that the possibility of it being rejected is remote. In an interview to a TV channel, Mr Jaitley argued that it “is a commitment before the whole country” and the chances of the parliamentary panel going back on it “normally does not arise”.
He claimed that it was only an “in-principle” acce-ptance of the three points raised by team-Anna. But he explained that there was “no proposer, no seconder and no voting” as is normally the case when a resolution is passed. “I think parliamentary flexibility gives you enough leeway. If you were to ask me in one sentence, I think it was a sense of the House statement, which in the text used the word resolve twice. So there is a genuine ambiguity. But I am willing to accept it as a statement, which indicates that it is a resolve on the part of the House,” he said.

Jaitley defends GADKARI’S anna remark

Clarifying BJP president Nitin Gadkari’s stand that the party is ready to march under the leadership of anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun jaitley on Sunday said that the comments were only “metaphorical” and related to just the anti-corruption movement.
In a letter to Mr Hazare after he broke his fast following a Parliamentary resolution on this three demand, Mr Gadkari had offered the Gandhian leader that his party was ready to march under his stewardship.
Mr Jaitley, in an interview with a TV channel, said the remarks made by the BJP president were “metaphorical” and the reference was to the anti-corruption campaign led by the Gandhian and not to any political movement.
“It’s not a movement of political parties, it’s even unlike the JP movement.
